Summer School on Probabilistic Numerics in 2017

The Dobbiaco Summer School is a internationally renowned series of seminar designed to introduce young researchers to recent developments in numerical analysis and applied mathematics. Co-organized by the Università di Trieste (Alfredo Bellen and colleagues), and Universität Innsbruck (Alexander Ostermann), the school has been running since 2000. Each year, a team of two to four lecturers is invited to design a week-long teaching program on a specific subject. For the 2017 edition, the organizers have recruited Mark Girolami (Imperial College, ex Warwick) and our own Philipp Hennig, to lay out the recently emerging field of probabilistic numerics.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to design an entire course on our emerging field", Philipp says. "There is a lot of progress lately, but it is spread over a growing number of technical research articles, addressing individual challenges. This will be a great occasion to connect the dots and lay out a consistent view. And of course, I hope we will be able to excite a group of young researchers about this direction and the many applications that are beginning to materialize." 

The school takes place in the awe-inspiring setting of the Puster Valley in South Tyrol. Interested students and researchers can register on the school's webpage until April 30, 2017.
